Voice.

It’s been six days without voice.

I never thought this would happen to me. But it happens. Imagine waking up to find that you’ve lost your voice. Yeah, scary. I thought this is just another regular sore-throat thing and it will be over by next day. But no. It’s not. It’s been almost a week now, and to say that I am not worried, is an understatement.

Acute Laryngitis. That’s what the good doctor diagnosed. I googled, of course.

Acute laryngitis is a temporary inflammation of the voice box (larynx), usually caused by viral infections like the common cold or flu, or by vocal strain. Symptoms, which can include hoarseness, sore throat, and a cough, typically resolve within a couple of weeks with self-care measures like voice rest and hydration.

Apparently, there’s no exact medicine to cure it. Good news – it is temporary but it will take some time for it to recover fully, on its own. All that needed is a good rest and lots of hydration.

Exactly.

How did I ended up with this? Honestly, I am not sure. Doctor said it could be infection to my throat, since I had fever last week. And she also said it could be overuse. Vocal overuse? Haha. Why? I lives alone with my cats. If anything else, it would be ‘underuse’ instead. I can go days without talking to another human, not even on the phone. Anyways, I suspect that I might have over-exerted myself last week. Saturday to be exact. I was still recovering from my fever, then I overdid my morning brisk walk. Followed by a roadtrip to Melaka. It sounds like nothing right? I used to do more than that. But I forgot that I am not young anymore. I have to admit, I am old, my body has aged and I don’t have that much energy I used to have before.

So yeah, I might have gone overboard. I have over-estimated myself. Now, I have to slow down and let my body recuperate itself, on its own.

Lots of rest, lots of fluids, no talking.

I need to get better soon, cause I missed a lot at work. My voice is very important in my line of work. No voice, no work. Sad.
